June is Black Music Month!

June was  dubbed Black Music Month (surprisingly) by Jimmy Carter in 1979. President Obama has also participated in the tradition by announcing it to the public as African American Music Month.

My first love is music, and as I have probably said before, I originally wanted to be a singer. That dream still lives within me when I reminisce with some of my favorite performers. One of my favorite singers of all time is Tamia! (I sang "Stranger in My House" at New York's famed music spot Cafe Wha' once and actually got kudos from Freddie, Freaking, Jackson!!!)

Though Tamia has been unappreciated in the music industry, true music lovers who value outstanding vocal ability keep her and her most notable hit, "Stranger in My House" close to their hearts.

So in my best Don Cornelius fashion, let's do a little re-wind and enjoy the "vocal stylings" of Tamia singing "Stranger in My House" live at the Apollo in celebration of Black Music Month!

Who are some of your favorite R&B/Soul artists?
