It's Prince's birthday!!! His Royal Badness turns 54 today!!! (He looks amazing!!!) It's completely befitting that Prince's birthday falls in June, Black Music Month, as he is a black artist who has truly revolutionized not only soul and R&B, but all popular music as his uber innovative style cannot be contained to one category. But one thing is for sure, he keeps it funky!
Prince not only embodies the ultimate definition of an artist, but a musical genius! He comes from an era where it was commonplace to be able to sing, write and play instruments, and be versed in varied musical genres. He is a real star in that he has maintained an air of mystery, and created an entire movement in style and lexicon. Prince also pioneered an objective to give recording artists more rights in the industry, just one more move that placed him ahead of his time.
Anyone who knows me knows I'm a Prince freak! The Purple Rain album, and stays in heavy rotation on my iPod, and lives on as a transcendent classic!
Happy Birthday Prince! And thank you for the musical Revolution!
